Here we go !!!!!

This is the line up of ladies creating this weekends weddings. Jessie is hiding behind the camera and Sam is hiding behind Jessie.

Caught you Sam, sorry about that I know you did not want us to take your picture.

Here comes "in the cooler". I have found out that some of my brides like to take a sneak peek before the wedding. I just want to make it very clear, we have a few weddings that look a bit alike so you may not be looking at your bouquet. So if you are sneaking don't freak, if you are more pink than you thought you would be, or more green than you thought your bouquet would be, or even orange. Your bouquet is perfect, you may just not be able to see it in the cooler yet.

Check out those Dahlia's. I have a secret Dahlia weapon Don's Dahlia's. He sells on Saturday mornings, at the Leesburg Farmers Market.  If you would like some of Don's precious Dahlia's you need to get to market early, Don always sells out. I snagged up 3 different shades of his Dahlia's for this week's designs.

I only have one feather bride, so if you are looking this is your bouquet. Don't you love your bouquet?

Tiffany if you are looking at this piece it is not finished. The bow on top is only to help me remember to bring your ribbon with me to the wedding. I will not tie a bow on top of your lantern, we will have long streamers with no bows. I got it !!!!!

If my other Tiffany for this weekend is peeking these are not your flowers.  I think you should recognize the feather bouquet.

That is it for tonight, I am tired and I am going to bed.  We did kick you know what again.

This is my bride Colleen. She just sent me her images from Samantha Williams at Enfocus Photography.  She used hot pink flowers with accents of white, orange, and bright green. Hot pink flowers are a really popular choice for weddings. I believe, one reason for this is that they are a perfect accent with so many color pallets.  In addition they are bold, bright, and beautiful.

I also wanted to mention that I am the guest visitor on my friend Evan's blog today. Evan owns My Dee Jay, we are also regular blogger's at Wedding Aces. I actually don't think I have ever mentioned that I blog for Wedding Wire as well.  Wedding Aces, is the Wedding Wire blog. I am their florist Ace, Evan is their DJ Ace.

This wedding was just a few weeks ago at Whitehall Manor in Bluemont Virginia. One of Loudoun County's finest wedding venues.

This is the ballroom at Whitehall. The family noticed in my portfolio's how beautiful hand made runners look. They had a seamstress make runners for each table, and the look was truly amazing.

The use of bright chartreuse green, and white, made this color combination unique. Using these colors put a real twist on the pink, and orange combination, that has been very popular the last few years.

For her wedding we used, hot pink and medium pink Roses, orange Roses, green button Mums, white Lily, Spray Roses, green Hypericum Berry, mini green Hydrangea, and countless others.

Here are Colleen's comments about her wedding flowers.

Hi Holly!

Jeremy and I just returned from our honeymoon, and I wanted to send you a HUGE thank you for your wonderful work. I absolutely loved the bouquets and centerpieces, as did everyone else at the wedding. We received endless complements on the flower arrangements and I know that the reception would not have been complete without them!

Thanks again, it was so great working with you!

I am so happy to have these images, I have them thanks to Facebook. I just happened to get reconnected with my past bride Susan there. Her wedding was at The Thomas Birkby House.   I loved her flowers, I was always so sad that I forgot to ask for pictures. It was a treat to see them several years later.  We used many different shades of hot pink and introduced the deep purple as the next major accent color.  We loved this look, and again the bright chartreuse green was used. The green seems to act as a equalizer between colors.  Flowers we used on this wedding included, pink Nerine Lily, Carnations in green and purple, Lily, Roses in green, and hot pink, Dogs Eye Euphorbia, Lizzy or Eustoma, Phlox, Stock and many others.

The large altar arrangements doubled as buffet pieces. Look how we made the switch.

Here is our very gorgeous buffet set up, we provided the glass vases. This way we were able to give the altar pieces a new look.  How lucky to catch my beautiful bride at the table.  We can thank the photographer SOTA Dzine for capturing the day.

The very lovely cake was created by Carolyn Taylor of Taylor Made Cakes.

Here is what Susan had to say about her flowers two years later.

Holly,

Here are some photos for you from our wedding (only a little over 2 years ago!).  I am still amazed by the flowers and wish I could have a bouquet like that every day:)  I continue to recommend your work to Loudoun area brides.  From the looks of your blog, you've got lots of summer weddings going on.

Susan

I promised I had one more wonderful wedding to post from last week.  I have been waiting to get this final photograph, so that you could see the true beauty of this event.  I was asked by my friend Aradhana, to help with the floral decor on one of her events. Aradhana owns AS U Wish, Inc. Aradhana specializes in East Asian weddings, and decorations.  Aradhana and I met at a networking group that I joined about a year ago. The group speicalizes in South Asian Weddings. That Group is DC WEPSA
Lucky for me, the group took me in blond hair and all. They have been willing to teach me the whole look, style and symbolism of their events. In truth I was just absolutely enamored with the decor, and feel of these weddings. The colors, textures, textiles, and the full out design is amazing. I was brought in as a sub contractor for this wedding. Most of the time the event decorator or event planner designs and handles everything themselves. From the flowers, to the building of the Mandap, to the linens. It is mind boggling how all of this can get done by one design company.   The Mandap is the huge structure that the bride and groom will marry under.  There is so much work involved with these weddings, that it takes hours just to get the Mandap set up.  The weddings typically have a very high guest count as well, so there are lots of centerpieces and tables to set up.  This particular wedding was for 50 tables.

When I arrived with the flowers Aradhana still had to finish the ceremonial area. This is what it looked like when we arrived.

That is my beautiful and talented friend as she is starting to create the structure.

Here are the centerpieces.

I am so glad I got to be a part of this wedding. Learning and understanding new cultures and their design ideas is a gift I never thought I would learn from being a florist.

In a effort to show Loudoun to my girlfriends, I tried to hit a little bit of everything. A day trip anywhere must include shopping. Loudoun has some of the best antique shops, and little old Lucketts has a few of my favorites.  This is On A Whim Antiques, owned by Donna Troxler.  I love her so much, that I even took on a little retail space in her store.  This little extension of Holly Chapple Flowers has been a pure delight.

This is my space, please note as of yesterday two of these pieces of furniture have sold. Lucky me.

On A Whim is a complete treasure. I am so lucky to know Donna, and to be a part of her store.  Donna is a true gem, she even has a room called "Pay It Forward". A percentage of sales from this space go to the Breast Cancer foundation.  She is always helping and contributing in the community, and she has a heart as pure as gold.

Lucketts also is the home of the Old Lucketts Antique Store. This shop is sure to be a fun stop along your Loudoun County trails.

Maria from Ritzy Bee was one of the friends that I brought on the tour.  She is a event planner, and designer. She also is the editor of the The Ritzy Bee Blog.  This girl is big news in the wedding industry, with several very exciting opportunities coming her way.  If you are a bride and are not reading her blog your are missing some truly delightful inspirations.

I of course was attracted to these beautiful vessels for flower arranging. This shop is loaded with ideas no matter what your trade or style.

One of my favorite stops on the Loudoun tour was visiting my friend Beth at South Street Under. Under, Tuskies restaurant.

Beth won Front Line employee last year from the Dept of Tourism.  Customers and co-workers enjoy her incredible attitude. She is a pleasure to be around and when you add that to the delicious food at South Street, well, your just plain in heaven.

Actually, everyone at this cafe wears a smile. It is quite frankly contagious.  I so very much love the outdoor dinning.

These last pictures are ones I forgot to share of my father's farm.  Daddy owns Heider's Country Farm Market in Lucketts.  My father is a real farmer and has been all of his life, as his parents and grandparents before him.  I owe so much of who I am to my parents, for all they have taught me.  Not to mention the love of growing a product, a business and a family.

Fresh out of the garden !!!  Here dad is taking product out othe garden and getting it ready to go to his market.  Dad's farm is just 3 miles from his store in Lucketts.

Did I mention the black berries are ripe and for sale.  My father has rows and rows being picked for sale at the market. Unless my children get there first.

Now, I know how to make Sam stand still.

I promise brides, I still have more wedding pictures and lots of flowers to show you. We will get there. We will also have all of this weeks creations to share as well.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of showing off some of the joys of Loudoun County. Some of my city friends came out for a visit. Sterling and beyond is the city to me. We had a great day and I was so happy to share Loudoun's  incredibly diverse and rich community with my friends.  The above picture shows Doug Fabbioli, he is engrossed in telling his wine story.  Doug is a amazing member of not only the wine industry, but of Luckett's as well.  Doug supports all things Loudoun, Lucketts, and wine related this a incredible man with barrels full of passion about his Loudoun life.
We actually rode in grand style from destination to destination in a Reston Limousine. I am kicking myself for not taking a picture of that. Truly fun, for a housewife and florist.  Normally I am watching the brides arrive in the limo. Nice change for me.  Reston Limo offers wine tours, in addition to all of that wedding day transportation.  This is a great bridal shower idea or bachelorette party.  We love Kristina owner of Reston Limo, truly a remarkable lady.

Next We headed to my dads farmers market Heider's Country Store.  Daddy has fresh produce that he grows on his property in Lucketts.  At 71 years old he planted 3 acres of Tomatoes, Berries, Squash, Corn, you name it he grows it, my dad is truly amazing.
Dad announced to my friends that one of the mares had just delivered a foal, so we were off to their farm. I was happy to thank the mare for dropping her load, just in time for my friends.  I mean really, you just can't plan that kind of fun.

We headed to the shops in Lucketts and out to Tarara Winery. I have more pictures to post, but I have a client on the way. I will post more later today.  I also still have one very incredibly unique wedding to post from last weekend.

Nah, Leesburg and beyond are the suburb-cities. Purcellville’s even a tad large!
Nice story on some of the sights in the area. Haven’t taken a deeper look at your blogs but noticed some excellent photos to go with your stories and a nice layout. Not sure where else you venture beyond the Loudoun borders and into neighboring areas but do come by and visit us at meanderingones.com (Twitter: meanderingones) if you have an extra sec. There are so many great byways and properties we’re going to start adding some entries for them that we think would be great for folks planning events or even simple drives.
We’re all very lucky to live in this neck of the woods, and it’s great to see you can parlay you’re business and love of this area into something that brings great joy. Good luck in your business.

Shannon was my first bride to marry this past Saturday.  Shannon was having a small intimate wedding at Lansdowne Resort.  We created her bridal bouquet, all bout's (short for boutonniere) and corsages.  We also created several centerpieces for her guest tables.  We used green Cymbidium Orchids, raspberry Roses, and hot pink Gerber's to create her bouquet.

Her centerpieces were created in vases lined with limes.  We used bright green Hydrangea, and green Hypericum, to make the flowers really stand out.  I am sure Shannon had a wonderful day, a wedding day at Lansdowne is sure to be perfect.

My next wedding was Carine, this wedding took place at Rose Hill Manor.  Carine is originally from Haiti, so she loves tropical flowers and bright colors.

We created two large arrangements for the outdoor ceremony. Here we were able to use lots of those tropical blossoms, the bride loves. These arrangements were so beautiful.

Carine had two flower girls one wore a orange sash, we placed orange flowers in her hair. The second flower girl had a hot pink sash, she carried a basket with hot pink flowers. We placed hot pink rose buds in hair also.

We did half of the centerpieces elevated and half of the designs low to the table.  We used all the bright colors of the day.

One of my favorite elements about this design, were the mini Pineapple flowers. If you look closely you can see a flower that actually looks like a mini pineapple.

The cake was provided by Amphora Bakery they also did all of the catering as well.

This wedding was absolutely beautiful.  We handled everything perfectly and were even able to accommodate a last minute, day of, increase in centerpieces.   We always are prepared, and that is something I am very happy to report.

We have another unique and beautiful wedding to share with you and some other great ideas from the weekend.  I just can't fit it all in one post.

  • Summer Wedding Flowers | CherryMarry Says: (10.13.2012 | 08:41)

[…] Because summer is the most famous time for weddings, it is very imperative to come to a decision in advance the type of wedding flowers required by the bride. As the florists are bound to be busy with a lot of other weddings, the bride should be in no doubt of her choices. One good thing about summer weddings is that just about any kind of flower is obtainable at the time. Favorite pastel colors consist of cool blues and pale yellows. Bold purples, brilliant reds and oranges really suit for summer wedding flowers. […]

We have gotten into the habit of doing a "In The Cooler" post before a event.  We just buzz around really quick, and let you see some of the designs while they are sleeping. Everyone needs to rest before the big day, even flowers. These are some of this weeks creations.

We created 50 of these burgundy and white centerpieces. Yes, that is correct 50. We have a wedding tomorrow for 500 people.

This is our pink and lime green wedding. The bridal bouquet is hidden in the cooler.

Here is one, of two very large altar arrangements. They go with the first photo, we have a red, yellow, hot pink, orange and green wedding at Rose Hill Manor in Leesburg.

These pieces (19 total ) were for a rehearsal dinner tonight, they were created for one of our friends at Design Cuisine.  We used dark Milva Roses and elements from my garden, and some exotics. These were picked up at 10:00 am this morning. Happy wedding Kelly.

It looks like another full weekend at Holly Chapple flowers, more photo's coming at the weeks end.

Guess who this is? Just read the signs.  I will be doing the flowers for Tiffany and Danny in just one more week. I am so excited to be working on this event. My couple is truly lovely and totally inspired.  They have been hard at work creating all of the little details that make a event perfect. These hand painted signs they got at ETSY from thebackporchshoppe  are a perfect example of some of the very personal touches this wedding is sure to have. The bride and groom are having a family gathering this weekend. They will be hard at work folding programs, and creating  paper tissue balls that will be suspended from the ceiling of the tent. They made the below designs for the ladies rest room, candy bar, and gift area.

This is sure to be a wonderful wedding and I look forward to sharing more with you very soon.

I wanted to post this picture because, I think it may truly be the cutest altar picture ever. This is my bride Jenn, her wedding was several weeks ago.  We are still waiting for the professional images but she sent this photo to me.  I honestly don’t think I have ever seen a bride that happy at the altar.  Most shots are the pre faint look, or the I am gonna cry look.  She clearly is wearing the “I am getting everything I ever wanted look”.  Jenn also sent me this really cute note that shares with me the value of the blog.  I often wonder if people are paying attention to these posts.  Some brides clearly are.  We typically do a Friday night post called ” in the cooler “, it’s a little sample of what will be happening the next day. It never occurred to me that my brides were taking sneak peeks. That is truly adorable.  Here is the little note she sent to me.

Holly,

Thank you so much for all of my wedding flowers they were absolutely gorgeous and perfect!  I stalked your blog the day before the wedding waiting for fridge pics and finally the morning of, I got a peek I was so excited!!  Of course your official thank you card is in the mail but I just wanted to let you know how much I loved the flowers.

Thank You,
Jenn

We are getting ready for another big weekend. I will try to do that walk through the cooler tonight, just in case someone is peeking.

The centerpieces I will showcase today are the rest of the designs created for the RSVP Catering event.  Some are very elaborate, and some quite frankly are simple gatherings of vintage items.  When choosing centerpieces for your wedding, first you will have to consider the overall look of your wedding.  The next most important decision will be establishing a budget for those designs.  Consider using vintage items picked up at antique stores or raiding the family china cabinet.  Using just a few blossoms in a creamer or a tea cup can look very fashionable without screaming budget.  Mostly use your thinking cap, and have fun.

We took this cloche vase and stand right off my mantel and created this centerpiece.  Very unique, very easy and very beautiful.

Sometime when you have upgraded linens or patterned linens you can save on your centerpieces.  This vessel was straight out of the kitchen and we used lemons and limes to bring this design to life. It is such a clean look.

How simple and sweet.  From July until the first frost, Dahlia's are an awesome flower to use for DIY flower arrangements. Seek out local growers and farmers markets.  This teapot was purchased at a yard sale for .50 cents.

A vintage candy bowl, again hit grandma's china cabinet.

Totally clever for a barn wedding or outdoor barbecue. I have a collection of cow bells, believe it or not.

Clusters of wheat and Billy Balls, also known as Craspedia.

More local Dahlia's, displayed in a very fun vase.

This buffet piece was created of all carnations. Yes, carnations. Designs created with carnations big or small can look just delicious.

These lovely centerpieces are certainly for a larger flower budget they have close to 75 roses in each piece. We added 15 stems of Astilbe and 10 stems of Spray Roses just to push it over the edge.  These pieces are super yummy.

We created this design as a entrance focal piece but in truth it would work really well on a buffet also.  Notice there are actually Artichokes in this design.

I would like to thank RSVP catering for allowing me to showcase my work.  I also am thankful for getting to work with their very talented designer and sales person Izzy
( Elizabeth Shotwell ).  Very wonderful evening, very awesome experience.  Thanks also to Jill at Washingtonian Magazine for coming by and taking a peek at all our hard work.

Holly

  • Stephanie Says: (07.18.2010 | 10:13)

how many carnations are in the carnation piece?

  • Holly Chapple Says: (07.19.2010 | 11:43)

I believe that piece took 250 carnations to create. It totally depends on how big we make the design.

Remember just before vacation I was working on a event with Izzy (Elizabeth Shotwell) at RSVP catering. They wanted to have a tasting that not only featured their excellent food but showed brides the endless possibilities in linens and table decor.  These pictures show the end result of all of our hard work. Each centerpiece or design is a Holly Chapple Design. Even the non floral arrangements are my inventory from my home decor line that I sell at On A Whim Antiques at Lucketts Va.

We had a wonderful evening and I was so glad to spend the night with such wonderful people in the industry.  A huge pleasure for me was spending time with Jill the Editor of the new Washingtonian Bride and Groom magazine, what a incredible lady.  I am so glad to be a part of their fabulous new magazine and one of her editors picks for best of florists in the DC area. I also got to spend time with my friend Maria Cooke from Ritzy Bee. She featured one of my bouquets today on her blog so please check that out. Another new treasure and joy in my life is the fabulous Kate Headley her photography is such a remarkable extension of her very creative mind. I am so lucky to have all of these wonderful women in my life.  Keep posted we will have lots to share this week.

There are many more designs to feature from this event so keep posted.
