Winter is a miserable time for flower addicts, every day is anguish. I long for my flowers, my gardens and even wedding season. Some of the finest blossoms and elements come straight from my own property. My flowers are like long lost friends by the time we get to the end of the winter. To help hold me over until spring, one of my favorite things to do is to cut Forsythia branches and force them into bloom. Its such a miracle, that you can take a absolutely bare twig and bring it to life and full bloom just by placing the stem in warm water. You must be patient though, it will take at least a week for the branches to bud out, but it is awesome to watch happen. Forsythia is actually very common and most people have one or two bushes on their property. In full spring they are considered rather ordinary or run of the mill, but in the dead of winter they are priceless when it comes to getting a taste of spring.
