What I am about to tell you really, really, happened and it was one of those amazing defining moments. Several weeks ago a mother of the bride contacted me about doing wedding flowers for her daughter. The family had seen my website and blog and they really loved my work. However the conversation began like this, “my daughter is not really particular, she does not need really pretty flowers, just simple, not really designed flowers would be okay.” Out of my mouth came this,” oh well, then perhaps I am not the right florist for you, because my flowers are REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, pretty wedding flowers, if you want just everyday run of the mill flowers or grocery store flowers then you most likely don’t need my designs and that is totally okay.” I went on to say that I understand everyone has a list of priorities and sometimes run of the mill flowers are really okay. Some families don’t notice the details of a perfectly designed piece, I on the other hand can’t just turn out something that is not full, polished, adorned, lush, and completely finished. What was so beautiful about this was… in this moment, I realized who I am, and also who my clients are. This conversation was totally pleasant and actually funny, and I was having a major aha moment. I wasn’t being snobbish or rude, I was in all honesty defining my flowers. My flowers are REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, pretty flowers. This is how I roll!!!
